Bon Appétit Management Company Nabs Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters Green Business of the Year Award

In clean tech land, sustainable food still wins the green medal

Palo Alto, Calif. – The Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters, (SCCLCV), which promotes local environmental protection, has selected Bon Appétit Management Company as their Green Business of the Year. The award will be presented on Wednesday, September 19th, at the historic McKenna House, as part of SCCLCV’s annual Environmental Awards and Fundraising Event.

The Bon Appétit company-wide initiative to buy locally, Farm to Fork, supports the preservation of local farmland. Vibrant local food economies curb city sprawl. Bon Appétit contributes to this strong, market-based defense against urbanization of the agricultural lands that ensure food safety, open space and community sustainability.

“As a leader in identifying ways to promote fresh, local produce, Bon Appétit has demonstrated to the greater community that business plays an important role in environmental protection,” says Rod Diridon, Sr., Executive Director of SCCLCV. “Curbing sprawl is crucial to saving natural resources, public funds, and even encouraging public transit improvements and use, providing a greater quality of life for individuals and community here in Santa Clara County.”

Bon Appétit cafés prominently display Circle of Responsibility educational tools that help guests identify foods according to the categories of: health, organic, locally and responsibly sourced. This program promotes the benefits of sustainable food to thousands of people who eat in Bon Appétit cafés every day. “Bon Appétit’s presence in Silicon Valley cafés has greatly raised awareness of local environmental issues,” says Diridon.

“We are proud to be recognized as good stewards of community resources,” says Chief Executive Fedele Bauccio. “We’ve worked very hard to grow sustainable food industries, and we are honored to be recognized by the SCCLCV for our environmental commitment.”

The Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters (SCCLCV) is dedicated to promoting local environmental protection by supporting and electing environmentally responsible candidates in Santa Clara County. A chapter of the statewide California League of Conservation Voters, SCCLCV works to achieve conservation and protection of natural resources, environmental justice, and sustainability, through educating the public on important ballot measures and sound environmental candidates.
