Meet Ty Paup, our 2026 Chef of the Year

For over 20 years, our 2026 Chef of the Year, Director of Culinary Operations Ty Paup, has embodied everything it means to be a Chef of the Year. Through COVID, record breaking snowstorms, and campus challenges, Ty has consistently demonstrated the very best in culinary leadership, along with an unwavering commitment to people and community.

In addition to being recognized by leaders and peers at Bon Appétit, Chef Ty accomplished a first for the company in 2026: Being named Compass Group’s Top Chef of the Year! Congratulations Ty!

As the leader of one of Bon Appétit’s most demanding accounts at an elite private college, Ty consistently goes above and beyond to create exceptional experiences for students, faculty, staff, and guests, including the provost and president of the university, who insist he lead their most important events. As Regional Vice President Paul Bulau, who nominated Ty for this award, shared, “I can say without hesitation that no one embodies Bon Appétit’s values more proudly than Ty.”

Ty’s influence extends far beyond his day-to-day responsibilities. His colleagues describe him as often the first person to respond when his community faces a challenge, providing comfort, stability, and care when students and staff need it most. He also consistently makes time to mentor fellow chefs and support other Bon Appétit accounts, always willing to step in wherever he is needed.

“If another Bon Appétit account needs help, Ty is always the first to raise his hand and the last to leave. Whether he’s mentoring chefs, jumping on a plane or train to support another account or a high-profile opening, or creating unforgettable dining experiences, he gives every assignment his whole heart,” says Paul. Ty’s kindness, humility, and dedication inspire everyone around him.

Chef Ty’s career is a testament to the power of hospitality and the impact of leading with both excellence and heart. As he looks to the future, Ty says, “The future of Bon Appétit is incredibly bright, and I am excited to help shape it alongside the talented people who will carry our profession forward for years to come.”
