SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (October 3, 2016) — HCP, Inc. and its award-winning food service partner Bon Appétit Management Company today announced that Foundry & Lux in South San Francisco is now open to the public. This chic yet informal restaurant complex boasts a café for morning coffee and lighter fare; a wide range of options in the main dining area for lunch; and a lounge with a bar and wood-burning pizza oven. Located at 151 Oyster Point Boulevard in South San Francisco, part of The Cove at Oyster Point development, the space also offers a number of complimentary amenities for The Cove tenants and public guests — two bowling lanes and a pool table inside; bocce ball, horseshoes, ping pong, and a basketball court outside; plus fireplaces inside and out. An in-progress kitchen garden will provide produce and herbs that will influence the menu throughout the seasons.

The three dining concepts are overseen by Executive Chef Jean-Claude Balek, who previously worked as chef de partie at Ad Hoc in Yountville and as executive chef at La Taberna in Napa. His menu includes wood-fired pizzas, rotisserie meats, artisan sandwiches, and salads made with fresh produce from the on-site garden. Dishes will be driven by sustainable and locally sourced ingredients including humanely raised meats, certified cage-free eggs, and seafood that meets Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch guidelines.

Foundry & Lux was designed by architect Stephen Francis Jones of SFJones Architects, who is known around the world for creations that are more than just places to eat — they are highly crafted social spaces where relationships are formed, collegial and familial bonds are reinforced, and communities are built.  Incorporating rustic reclaimed wood and steel with luxurious design touches, the look andthe name Foundry & Lux were inspired by various aspects of South San Francisco’s past. “Foundry” nods to South San Francisco’s “Industrial City” past as a center for steel working and manufacturing. Lux is a direct historical reference to Charles Lux, whose cattle ranching company — Miller & Lux — was the first to be established in the area. He was also the founder of the community of Baden, which later became South San Francisco.
